Zimbabwean Comedian, Carl Joshua Breaks World Record, Staged 31 shows in a Week

TOP-rated comedian Carl Joshua Ncube’s bid to break the world record of the longest stretch of performances before paying audiences in one week seemed to have paid off after he staged 31 shows, beating the previous record of 30 shows set by Mark Murphy of Australia.

between August 17 and 23 in South Africa, Harare, Kadoma, Gweru, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls shattering Murphy’s 10-year record set in 2007.

Ncube said his team was currently compiling together evidence that would be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The comedian told NewsDay his feat was meant to inspire fellow countrymen, who are living under the heavy yoke of political and economic failures.

“This is a great demonstration of Zimbabweans working together. In spite of our challenges this project proves as Zimbabweans we can be great,” he said.

“We cannot be defined by the failures of government as a nation, we are able and the world record is about motivating a discouraged nation.”

Ncube admitted that it was not easy achieving the feat as it was physically and emotionally taxing.

“I still can’t believe I had the energy to perform. I got tired, especially the day when I did nine gigs on the same day. Now, Guinness Book of World Records are waiting for us to submit our evidence,” he said.

According to regulations, the shows should be made up of comedy acts over 30 minutes long each before a paying audience in a recognised venue that normally staged comedy nights with a capacity for seated audience. Tickets had to be advertised and available for sale to the public through the usual outlets and the concerts should be accessible to members of the press.

Ncube has since flown to Uganda, where he was set to share the stage with Africa’s finest comedians Patrick Salvado, Alex Muhagi, Annie Kansime of Uganda, Eddie Kadi (DRC), Bovi (DRC), Ndumiso Lindi (South Africa), Arthur Nkusi (Rwanda) and Omende (Kenya) for the third edition of Africa Laughs show set for Friday.
