Kenya has committed to a donation of 4,000 iron sheets, 400 blankets and 100 mattresses to assist those affected by the devastating earthquake in Tanzania on Saturday.
In a statement to newsrooms, State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu further indicated that the donations will be airlifted by the Kenya Defence Forces on Tuesday to assist those affected by the disaster that claimed the lives of 16 people.
“Yesterday, President Uhuru Kenyatta phoned President John Pombe Magufuli to express solidarity and sympathy to the government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania following the loss of lives, injuries and destruction of property resulting from the earthquake that affected the region on Saturday,” read the statement in part
This comes after several people were killed when an earthquake measuring 5.7 hit northwest Tanzania on Saturday.
The quake struck at 1227 GMT, 43 km (27 miles) from Bukoba, a city on the western shore of Lake Victoria, at a depth of 10 km, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
