Native African languages
Estimates Peg between 2000 and 3000 Native languages spoken on the African continent, with possibly as many as 8000 dialects. African languages are divided into four major language families, as well as Austronesian. The map below shows the distribution of Africa languages across Africa.
All African languages are considered official languages of the African Union. Further see the explanation of the language map at the bottom of the article.
Africa mapped by languages
Wow! up-to 3000 languages spoken in Africa, I found this fascinating. So I decided to play a little game on Facebook to find out how many of these languages are spoken by African Facebookers, since there are 100 million users of Facebook in Africa.
The game is very simple, you head over to MyAfricaNow Facebook page, go to this post and let us know
- The language/s you speak
- how you say hello
